Today, Governor Gary R. Herbert unveiled his budget recommendations for FY 2013. The Governor’s budget recommendations focus on his four policy cornerstones: Education, Jobs, Energy, and Self-determination. A recovering economy and fiscally prudent management will allow the State to fund critical priorities, including growth in public education.

SALT LAKE CITY and WASHINGTON, D.C.-  Utah Governor Gary Herbert and Utah's entire congressional delegation, including Utah Senators Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee, and Congressmen Rob Bishop, Jim Matheson and Jason Chaffetz, today expressed deep concerns with the Air Force's decision to eliminate jobs at Hill Air Force Base.

Senator Dennis Stowell was a great friend with whom I worked for nearly two decades.  We met when we were both County Commissioners.  Dennis was a man of singular intellect who had a deep understanding of many issues of great importance to his native Iron County and to the whole state of Utah.

Jinshan Distrcict, Shanghai, China - Today, Governor Gary R. Herbert signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Jinshan District Mayor, Zhao Fuxi, in order to show mutual support for technology exchanges between Utah and Jinshan, China.

SALT LAKE CITY - The Third District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy on the district court. The vacancy results from the retirement of Judge Robert Hilder, effective August 1, 2011. The Third Judicial District includes Salt Lake, Summit and Tooele counties.

The Utah Office of Tourism will promote the state at the China Outbound and Tourism Market (COTTM) in Beijing, China this week.  The trade show coincides with Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert's Trade Mission to China.

Today, Governor Gary R. Herbert, and delegates of his trade mission, had the opportunity to meet with Dai Bingguo, State Councilor of the People's Republic of China.

Salt Lake City, UTAH - Governor Gary R. Herbert has often highlighted Utah's export growth as the strongest in the nation, but he has also challenged Utah's international business leaders to "double Utah exports in the next five years." 

SALT LAKE CITY - In light of the possible shutdown of the United States federal government, Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert and his staff have directed state agencies to prepare contingency plans for operations, as well as up to 4,500 impacted state employees who run federal programs locally.

Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert today appointed W. David Patton, Ph.D., executive director of the Utah Department of Health (UDOH).

Salt Lake City, UTAH - Governor Gary R. Herbert is scheduled to meet with a top U.S. trade official tomorrow to showcase Utah's remarkable international export performance. In his State of the State address, the Governor called on Utah businesses to double exports in the next five years, just as they have done in the previous five years.

Washington, D.C. - Following a weekend of meetings in the nation's capital with the National Governors Association (NGA), Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert was defending Utah's solutions for health care and wilderness issues today before two House committees in Washington, D.C.

Following an expedited legal review, Governor Gary R. Herbert will sign HB23, Controlled Substance Modifications, in his formal office with bill sponsors present.  The bill reached the Governor's office Thursday morning after passing both the Utah House and the Utah Senate.

Salt Lake City -Utah and the nation are recovering from the 2007 recession, only to find ourselves on a collision course with the future:  Not enough Utahns continue their education and training after high school.

In an effort to bring business and jobs to Utah, Utah Governor Gary Herbert is on Wall Street today, reminding top tier financial institutions that Utah is one of the best places to invest and grow.

Salt Lake City -This morning Governor Gary R. Herbert took his message regarding the State's spirit of self-determination to Washington, D.C.  In a meeting with the federal official who oversees Medicaid, and later in a speech to the Heritage Foundation, the Governor conveyed the need to include states when crafting federal policy and underscored his conviction that states can best solve their own problems, particularly in the area of health care reform.
